Personally, I would prefer to stick to an exercise regimen that completely leaves out the concept of me getting the crap knocked out of me. YMMV.

I must confess that I enjoy watching a boxing match, people who have never been in an actual fight may find it hard to understand but thereis sort of a rush involved by being able to defend ones self and also trying to beat an opponent. When I say beat I am not infering that you want to kill someone but just trying and to act and react to a situation that changes very quickly. The world may hate the sport but I have been just as badly bruised up by taking a fall downhill skiing as in a fist fight. Fighting taught me one very important lesson and that was that others have opionions and those opinions are just as important as your own and should be respected. The main Idea of the atrical is that the training involved for this sport is very intense and is is unquestionalbly a very good way to get in shape and stay in shape even if you never enter a ring for a fight.

I never regretted my days boxing at the Y. It taught me to just have the discipline to pace myself in all facets of life. Having a sense of self-respect,not just for myself, but for my opponents as well, & it carried outside the square circle. It's almost like martial arts. Boxing has a philosophy of it's own. Ahhh like you CR57 I love watching the "Sweet Science" as well.
