"The H5N1 avian flu virus, which mostly infects birds, has since 2003 infected 329 people in 12 countries, killing 201 of them. It very rarely passes from one person to another, but if it acquires the ability to do so easily, it likely will cause a global epidemic."

It must be frustrating for Immunologists to see such a thing coming, yet not know exactly what form of virus they will even be fighting.

Well, if it viral, will there be a way to fight it?

Oh, Damn.....we're all gonna die!

Typically, the best way to fight a virus is to develop a weakened strain or a partial RNA chain that the body's immune system recognizes as an invader. The immune system then develops antibodies capable of fighting off the full-strength pathogen. It's also some times possible to develop pre-made antibodies.

Just who is manufactoring this and trying to make it stronger.

Compliments of Mother Nature's Kitchen. Evolution is reality even for us christians.

Not to worry. The minions of the AntiChrist, such as George W Bush, are busy at work in bioweapons laboratories, creating the strain that will be used to wipe out billions.

It will be ready for use before November 2008.

It seems that every 100 years or so we get a pandemic to clean out the world so that it doesn't overpopulate. Well, this time its here again and a lot of people will die because of it. Just imagine if there weren't any pandemics. You wouldn't be able to walk outside or live the lifestyle you are living in now. Scary??? yes ofcourse but that the way life works.

Those lite bits of charcoal left over in a fire that's gone out are what's known as activated charcoal. Rub that thoroughly into a piece of cloth and you have a quick, improvised Biofilter mask. You can also rub that into a regular dustmask. Not quite as good as a manufactured one, but better than nothing in an outbreak. Remember to change it often.

Mr. Carlin has a very limited grasp of both medicine and philosophy.

Maybe......but he's funny as hell, and we'll all go out laughing!

Striking a wooden match and holding it tip down with pliers, tweezers etc. then blowing it out when it's good and coaled will give you activated charcoal.(for those who don't want to wait for the campfire to go out.)

Uh, What!

Sorry, Two of my posts got separated. Activated charcoal filter masks will pull many biological and chemical hazards from the air you breath. It's the tiny pores in it coupled with static attraction that make it work so well.

Oh, ok, sounds cool.

I think that the comments above relating to charcoal have to do with trying to prevent the inhalation of the virus, the 1918 pandemic was caused by a virus that spread basically the same way. After reading the artical I thought back to one of the Men In Black movies where at the end they opened a locker to reveal how insignificant the human race is, We as a species have acomplished alot, but as with a single human life there is no garantee for a species. I am not yelling that the sky is falling but most people do not ever reflect on subjects that are relevant.

This bird flu could be the death of many people. I know they would like to think we could contain this, but we should not be so naieve, just look at the TB patient that went to europe and canada, and even got bak into the US. Looks like Mother nature wants to think the herd a little with this one.

A bone to pick though with the article. Instead of saying mutating they should have just said evolution. Does the media not want to offend the Christians? Why? This is proof of evolution. Undeniable proof. Even Bush admits this is evolution.

Anyway.

Has anyone here read about the"Spanish Influenza Pandemic" of the Nineteen-Teens??? (@1913???) Let's get our science whiz kids out...sounds to me like it was a variant of what we now call bird flu...

Any thoughts???

My grandfather lived through that pandemic, there is an excellent account of his testimony on the internet and how it affected the people of eastern Ky.

He helped treat the sick, and bury the dead from it, but for some reason he never got it.

Here is a link to an article about the flu pandemic in 1918, the man interviewed at the time was my grandfather, he lived to be 107.
