Health & Fitness – Luxembourg lawmakers have adopted a bill legalising euthanasia, priming the Grand Duchy to become the third EU country allowing doctors to help patients end their own lives.
Euthanasia is another word for murder.
Isn't it more like suicide?
Right now it would be considered suicide. But you know how these courts are. Now your option next theirs. scary thought huh?
I don't know ranchhand , what about Dr.Death , you know Kavorkian [?]. He helped people to commit suicide and he went to jail for murder . I guess you can't have a trail for someone who's dead or those people may have been charged as well .
must be slipping. Yeh I remember him now. I don't know how I'd feel if I had cancer, aids, or some other disease that I was in so much pain. I would probably have to consider how I would leave my family financially too. I have been taught my entire life that life was precious. But how does quality fit in mixed with quantity. Only problem the goverment can't be allowed to control your life or in this case your death. In the states suicde is illegal that's why he is in jail. In the EU it is legal he would have most likely been patted on the back for his"work".
I don't see that this country will have much choice over the next 20 years. If everyone my age and older (I'm 60) is forced to live, even if they are an empty shell with no mind or memory, it will bankrupt the country.
When I can no longer learn, create, carry on a conversation or even follow world news, I'm no long me. I don't want simply let my body be force fed so I'll continue using up vital resources after my mind no longer inhabits it. Furthermore, I don't think anyone has the right to insist that I should.
It is encumbent on each of us to inform our family about our wishes if we should unfortunately become a vegetable or brain dead. I have a living will that states that no extraordinary means be used to prolong my life and if that means depriving my body of nutrients to survive, so be it.
And if I'm able, I'd take my own life because the quality of life means more to me than just living.

Let's play "what if" you are in a coma, in a state you can't answer,or no living will. Then what? Who pays? Socialized health care? Who decides the standard of living? Doctors, lawyers, family members if so, which one, parents, spouse, children ??

That's why I believe everyone should have a living will, just in case even if your young theres still a chance of something happening to you and god forbid if it does at least the people caring for you will know your wishes.
Same here engineer! we put animals out of there misery why shouldn't we be able to do the same.
Because "WE" are not animals, Dogs,cats etc. DO NOT have souls. When is it OK to decide ones health, or just because you are not wanted anymore, when is your usefullness done? Will you and others except being killed just because your usefullness is over. What a sad state of affairs when you compare Humans to Animals.
when its ME in pain, or terminally ill, it is MY right to choose to end MY own suffering. if that time ever comes, id really appreciate it if YOU would keep YOUR opinion to YOURSELF, because its MY life, to end or live, as I see fit. and if its YOU in that situation, i will respect and defend YOUR right to end YOUR own life if YOU so choose.
the most basic thing any of us own is ourselves, our own life. after everything that we own is taken, when we stand naked and alone, homeless, penniless, without so much as a crumb of bread, we STILL own ourselves, our existence, and if we choose to end that existence, that is our most basic right of all.

It's funny how when people are either to ignorant or afraid to confront simple things like death, or other necessary and difficult parts of "life" quickly turn to religion to give them all the answers.
I'd say that every case where euthanasia could be considered would be as unique as every individual in that situation. Let the decisions be made that way.
IcCaRus - That was the case for many peoples [ predominantly Jews ] in the death camps of WWII . But these people still had a will to survive , to live on even in despair . So I am speaking to your second paragraph . Why didn't these people commit suicide ? They had nothing but skin on thier bones .
Why does everyone have to live up to your expectations? Why not just let people make choices for themselves?
Like IcCaRus said, it's a personal choice. No one has the right to tell me what I should or shouldn't do with MY life. Some want to live under any circumstances but others don't...personal choice.
Lets be serious , in due time that choice will disappear . You will not have personal choice . Right now in society , childern are being given drugs because they are not quiet enough in class or at the home . Some parents will feed thier kids a little extra cough syrup to shut thier kids down . This will carry over to other areas of society , guaranteed to cross over to euthanasia . It will become a matter of convienence . If it is "your" personal choice , use a gun and get it over . Please don't interfere with everyone else's rights .

I would ask the same to those who would deprive me of my right to choose the method of my demise. Insurance companies don't pay out for suicide. I'd like to leave my loved ones with enough insurance to live comfortably after I'm gone. And how am I interfering with everyone else's right if I'm in favor of euthanasia?

Man's fate is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath, man has no advantage over the animal. Everything is meaningless. All go to the same place; all come from dust and to dust all return. Who knows if the spirit of man rises upward and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?
Shucks! If Luxembourg only had oil, we could have a good reason to attack them. Oh well...
I guess it comes down to whether or not you believe that people should have control over their own lives and when to end them or if you want the government telling you and everyone you know when you can live or die.
