Mice infestations happen. When I was younger I worked in a deli and we had no rodent problems whatsoever, then seemingly overnight the little bastards were everywhere. We must have killed a dozen or more a day for a week, and then it was over. They didn't have access to any of the food in the store, so I would guess that garbage dumped in the alley next door had provided enough food for a small population explosion. Mice can have litters every three weeks, so if there's an abundant food source available for only a short period of time, you can expect to see the numbers shoot up rather quickly.

        Why?

There is nothing dangerious they can catch from the mice...If there was, it would have already happened.

Yeah, no big deal, keep on moving. This happens every day in NYC. There are as many mice and rats in these old buildings as New Yorkers.
