Health & Fitness – The imprisoned father of a ten-year-old girl in the apparent final stages of a battle with brain cancer was allowed to have a half-hour, supervised visit with her Wednesday, according to CBS station KMTV in Omaha.
Couldn't they let this man be with his daughter until she passes away then let him complete his full sentence afterwards? For her sake, please let her have what little comfort and pleasure she can have under the circumstances.
He was FORTUNATE that the warden allowed him the visits he did. My heart goes out to the child. There is nothing worse then seeing a child dying. There is alot people miss when they are in prison, family passing away, funerals, births.Thats the whole point of prison its a punishment oftenharder on the offenders family as it is on them BUT IT IS THE OFFENDERS FAULT not the prison or society.
Compared to what this guy did as compared to people they let off on probation for violent crimes is ridiculous. This guy is no threat to society.
I dont know what he did, just says "drug related offense".That could be possesion, distribution or armed robbery for all we know. Keep in mind the warden DID let him visit her for her benefit not her fathers. He isnt in prison for being a decent guy....Remember the one last year that was released to donate a kidney to his kid AND THEN FLED TO MEXICO WITHOUT EVEN GOING TO SEE HIS CHILD. A jury found this man guilty asnd a sentenced was imposed.
I stand by my first statement. Its HIS fault that he is in prison, there are alot of family's going through similar circumstances.Keep in mind that he was using Meth when she was a toddler so he wasnt thinking of her best interest then.
I can see both sides. I understand the concept, don't do the crime of you can't do the time, but if he was using meth, as opposed to making it, i think the sentence was too steep.
The Lord works in mysterious ways His wonders to perform! Maybe this is the wake up call this little girls family needed in order to get their acts together.
I saw her mother on The Morning Show, she looked like a druggy.. not saying she is/was, but meth users have a look about themselves.
If the girl's father was on meth, then she might have been better off not seeing him like that. At the same time they should of let him see his daughter more often... perhaps two or three hours a week? Prison should be there to reform criminals, not punish them, and this could of been used as a reward for the father. I'm glad she got to see her father.
I agree with ghengisghan in that prison is a punishment no matter how one got there. I believe the warden was generous with granting the right of visitation on the wishes of the girl and not the father.
I don't know about others but if it we me and she died and I couldn't be with her whomever made that call better find a new place to hang their hat after I got released. Just another thing to think about.
Yes, I know he committed a crime and needs to pay for that. I'm not saying that he should be let free. His daughter is dying, for God's sake! She wants to be with him before she dies. I believe that he should serve out his entire sentence but can't he be with his daughter until she dies then go back to prison and serve out his sentence? This is not to reward him but to give some peace and comfort to a dying little girl. Maybe I'm being too sentimental but I can't see what's wrong with this arrangement. As for doing it for every case where a family member is dying, I think each case should be looked at on it own merits. A 10 year old girl on her last days of life is an exception that deserves compassion.
"Yes, I know he committed a crime and needs to pay for that. I'm not saying that he should be let free. His daughter is dying, for God's sake! She wants to be with him before she dies. I believe that he should serve out his entire sentence but can't he be with his daughter until she dies then go back to prison and serve out his sentence?"
And do what? Pay for around-the-clock armed guards at his home? Trust he will just show up to resume his prison sentence? That dripping noise is the sound of your bleeding heart.
How screwed up is the justice system in our country! The U.S. has the highest prison rate compared to any other so called "modern" country. There are so many violent people out there, and meanwhile we're putting in people who use drugs - ruining lives and putting a heavier burden on taxpayers. This is what you get with Bush's court appointees - people need to wake the ____ up in this country.
Have you ever dealt with someone on Meth? Many ARE violent, paranoid and not very pleasant to be around.
No doubt, but is 5 years in jail necessarily the solution? This is a cost that burdens you and I (as taxpayers), the guy (basically ruins this guy's chances of ever getting a decent job again), his family, and society (this guy will probably be more prone to doing it again since putting him in jail didn't really resolve his meth problem.)
Jail is usually the least of a meth addicts problems. They dont self rehabilitate. Most of the ones Ive dealt with have multiple property and assault convictions. They have already decided the next high is worth whatever they have to do to get it by THEIR ACTIONS. Its common for multiple charges to be dropped in plea's. Sending him to jail probably added a few years to his life. Were talking about people that will strain their urine to get residue to get high .
When the U.S. has the highest rate of imprisonment with 1 person in 133 (2006 figures*) in prison or jail, there is something wrong somewhere.
The cost to society should make the libs think about why this number is so large.
The cost to the tax payers should make the conservatives think about why this number is so large.

While I truly sympathize with the family, I can't help wondering how many other people were hurt by this guy selling drugs. How many people died from drug overdoes caused by the drugs he sold. How many children were hooked because of his actions. I think the mercy shown by the warden was generous.
Now before you attack, I work with a charity in Wisconsin Called the Strain for the Brain. It raises money for cancer and other brain related illnesses. I really feel terrible for the child because there is no cure. It's not fair that she has to suffer, made even worse because her dad's a loser. I pray she finds the peace in the next world that she didn't in this one.
People who want "CALL" themselves fathers, have responsibility. This is a classic case. In USA there are thousands of women who called themselves "MOTHERS" but hardly know what it takes to be a mother. Same thing goes with "FATHERS" and lastly there are thousands of couples who say they are "MARRIED" but hardly know what it takes to be married.
It is a tragedy. So the country has husbands killing wives & children, wives killing husbands & children and children killing fathers and mothers.
To the outside world, hypocrisy is shown in terms of people like Bush and his Republican rednecks who called themselves driven by "FAITH" while half the people in the country behind them are committing inhuman crimes within their families.
Hey nikki:
People who post stuff here on Propeller also have responsibility!!!
I wonder if you would care to back up your statement that "half the people in the country behind (Bush and his Republican rednecks) are committing inhuman crimes within their families."
That statement is so ridiculous, indefensible and untrue that it reveals quite a bit about you as its author, as well your biased mindset!!!
NLOL!!!
Glad the little girl got to see here father before she died (she died today). It was her dying wish and to not honor it would have been a travesty.
For all of you that love to hate Fox News, it would have never come to pass for this little girl had Fox News not pursued the failure in the system to make it happen.
