What a totally stupid move on the part of Congress. They CUT the Medicare budget and CUT pay to all doctors that treat medicare patients (which is MOST of the doctors in this country). THEN they say they want to "do something" about the doctor shortage that will occur because of the cuts THEY voted for?
Unbelievable ...

They need to push with cuts as per patient cost set to double in five years. This will make US health care very unfordable.
Come on, it is not that hard to reduce doctors shortage. Ban AMA imposed student caps on collages. Let a market decide. Why turn away good students just because they can not make imposed premed limit. Those limits are set ridiculously low.
15-17,000 graduation rate, when 25,000 doctors needed. The only reason for this limit is decrease competition, and increase prices.

The AMA has total control over health care in the US. This union (Association) determines the number of students seated in universities, the disciplines to be filled, and the total number of doctors to be released into the market. Bust this union? Not a chance. This is not to say we do not produce quality doctors. However, recall stories about interns sleepless for days treating patients. Understand how many active doctors are in drug rehab and still practicing. Know that doctors sued for malpractice are merely shifted to new locations to practice. Maybe that's the problem: some doctors deliver health care ... others are practicing.
