For many people the cause of their weight gain is medical. It could be that there is an underlying medical problem such as Diabetes or another serious illness. There are many more medical reasons for weight gain than most people realise.

I can't blame it all but there are two medications I take that "activate" the hunger center of your brain.

The body sometimes confuses thirst for hunger, partly because the thirst center is very near the hunger center in you brain. The result, if you are a little dry, you eat-not great for weight control. This is one reason to drink lots of water when you are trying to lose weight. Water is the perfect weight-watcher beverage-zero calories, and if you drink enough, especially cold, it has a calorie burning effect!

i have the same problem earlier... usually when i get a craving for something, i brush my teeth cause then everything will taste terrible & you won't want to eat anything... it has two upsides; you won't get fat & you'll have very white teeth :D

Although there are medical reasons that can AFFECT weight loss, there are very few medical conditions that can actually keep someone from losing weight if they make a consistent effort. In addition, exercising and eating right combat pretty much everything on this list.

I don't believe for one minute that many people can't loose wieght because of medical issues, unless laziness is now a medical issue.

My mom dropped 50 pounds by simply walking her dog everyday. Since the dog died, she's put it all back on.

I tore my ACL and didn't hit the gym for over 6 months and put on ten pounds. I signed back up and lost it all in threemonths (I also got most of my strength and cut back)

If you simply excercise 30-45 minutes, 3-5times a week and watch what you eat, you will loose weight.

I don't know how many times I've heard people say "well I walked ten miles today so I'm gonna treat myself to a shake"

No, this is not true according to the Drs. I have seen. Granted, I have had 5 DIFFERENT doctors in the last 4 years, thanks to my HMO. EAT LESS AND EXERCISE MORE. Having battled my thyroid issues for over 6 years, that theroy just does not work. NEWBIE0420, your mom is lucky all her PARTS still work. If it was "that easy" we would haven't all these obese, unhealthy people. I agree we are a lazy bunch, but others do try with not much success.

Weight gain and its loss are both case sensitive...they depend upon the individual, his environment and his lifestyle. Medical reason may be true is some cases like in Hypothyroidism but lack of exercise and improper eating habit majorly contribute to the cream of the fatty lot...
