I'm not sure how I feel about this. Many doctors make a pretty good salary and should take good care of there patients with out incentives. Don't most doctors go into the field to help people?

HMOs pay doctors more when they do not provide services. I was hospitalized for uncontrollable blood pressure and chest pain. After one day, my enzymes showed that I had not had another heart attack. But, despite the fact that my BP was still way above normal (200/135) and that I was still experiencing chest pain, they wanted to discharge me.
MY wife went nuts. Having been in the business, I confronted the CArdiologist. "Isn't it too bad that the HMO helped make your decision to discharge me?"
The doctor looked at me sheepishly as I walked back into my hospital room. A few minutes later, the doc came in and decided to keep me in the hospital under a different diagnosis, so that he could have the time to get my BP under control.
Money does not belong in the equation when it comes to caring for the sick. This system sucks! Doctors should make a respectable living, but it should not have anything to do with the quality or lack of care provided.

It takes a lot of work, study and money to become a doctor and I think the good doctors deserve to get bonus.
If the government would get out of medical care it would be better and less expensive. Government intervention never makes things better only worse.
