    Interesting, they used to say that mushrooms had no food value, I'm happy to know that isn't true because I really like shrooms. Thanks Senor.

        I bought a large bag of the dried form at Sam's...will have to see if there is much benefit to them as they don't taste so great. :-)

          I use them in soups and recipes, even the rehydrated dry ones. I noticed a health warning in the article, too:

          "Shiitake mushrooms have been known to cause diarrhea and abdominal bloating when high quantities have been consumed.
          Certain allergic reactions have also been recorded, most commonly skin rashes.
          It should also be noted, that since all varieties of mushrooms are a significant source of purines, which can be broken down to form uric acid, they are not recommended for sufferers of gout or kidney stones."

            FTA: 'The name shiitake translated from Chinese means fragrant mushroom'.
            Actually, shiitake is the Japanese name for the mushroom.
